Coronavirus actively mutates, but does not become more dangerous

A new strain of coronavirus, common in Europe, multiplies and spreads faster, but does not change the severity of the disease.

American scientists said that the mutations allowed the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus to spread faster around the world, but because of this, the pathogen did not become more dangerous. This is stated in an article in the journal Science.

Researchers at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill analyzed the D614G strain, which originated in Europe and is now dominant around the world.

Despite the fact that it multiplies faster and is easier to transmit, the strain does not cause more dangerous manifestations of COVID-19 than the original Chinese one. In addition, D614G is also susceptible to neutralization with preparations containing antibodies.
